Job Summary

Do you have a passion for wellness and looking to make an impact on the quality of life for seniors? As a Wellness Specialist here at the Masonic Homes of Covina, you will have the opportunity to empower our residents to enjoy living longer, healthier, and more purposeful lives. We are looking for a dynamic leader who will encourage, motivate, and educate our residents and committees by designing a wellness program to keep our residents safe, fit, and active. The right candidate will be responsible for developing a high quality wellness program, utilizing all six health components: physical, emotional, social, intellectual, spiritual and functional, while recognizing an individual's differences, interest and levels of ability. Provides safe and appropriate exercise instruction and training on exercise equipment for residents according to established policies and procedures.


  • Leads a comprehensive wellness program.
  • Performs a wide variety of tasks and duties related to a Fitness/Wellness Specialist and follows instructions as outlined by supervisor.
  • Maintains the workout area in accordance with established policies and procedures, to include removing reading materials and towels, replacing unused weights and exercise equipment, and ensuring equipment is clean and operational.
  • Answers basic fitness-related questions regarding safe and proper execution of exercises. Refers residents to the appropriate staff for questions regarding weight limitations and physical limitations.
  • Places the appropriate class registration sheet on Reception Desk and ensures all participants sign in.
  • Makes announcements to promote, inform, and remind residents of classes, new classes and programs, etc.
  • Compiles the number of participants on the class registration sheet, records the total on the appropriate tracking form and files the class sheet in the Registration Binder.
  • Ensures an adequate supply of towels, fitness handouts, etc. to present a professional atmosphere and efficient operation of the facility.
  • Reviews safety and emergency procedures, exits, etc.
  • Attends staff meetings.
  • Maintains current emergency and professional certifications updated and on file.
  • Monitor safety and practice safety habits
  • Monitor and evaluate the wellness program in comparison with other community care retirement communities to establish quality assurance studies and or bench marking opportunities.
  • Maintains records on each residents' goals and progress.
  • Provide educational classes on health, wellness and fitness.
  • Submits health and fitness related articles for the resident newsletter.
  • Assists with special fitness/wellness events and walking programs.


    Minimum Requirements:

    Current professional certification in an appropriate fitness domain from a nationally recognized organization (ACSM, NSCA, AFAA, ACE, YMCA) is desirable. Must have current certification in CPR and First Aid. Demonstrate Computer Skill Level #1. Prior experience or college course work in Sports Science or a Health-related discipline desirable. Experience teaching older adult group fitness classes and Senior Fitness Instructor certification preferred.
